Weekend Book Club--When Darkness Ends by Alexandra Ivy

All good things must come to an end and so it is with Alexandra Ivy's Guardian's of Eternity series. WHEN DARKNESS ENDS is the final book and it doesn't disappoint.

I've been reading about the Guardians of Eternity since book one and have come to love all the characters that populate that world, including one of the best sidekicks in all romance--Levet. I'm happy to say Levet is back once again to help save the day, as only the lovable but inept gargoyle can. I'm sorry to see the series end, but am glad that the author has given us such a wonderful book to finish what has been a truly amazing series.

BLURB:

The Guardians of Eternity are facing a final battle to save their world—but battles of the heart may be the most difficult to fight…

Cyn, the vampire clan chief of Ireland, is an unabashed hedonist whose beauty is surpassed only by his insatiable appetite for pleasure. It’s no wonder he’s furious when he’s transported from the magical land of the pureblooded feys to his desolate medieval castle—only to have his very existence thrown into a chaos that even he cannot charm his way out of…

Most women may be all but powerless against Cyn, but Fallon, a sharp-witted fairy princess, is less than beguiled by the silver-tongued vampire. She’s a serious soul with no time for the sort of games he plays—especially when they learn that someone is trying to close the veil that separates the dimensions. But seduction may prove the most powerful force of all, as attraction ignites between the unlikely pair even as worlds are colliding around them…

Throwback Thursday--Book Edition (Fury by Laurann Dohner)

FURY by Laurann Dohner is my choice this week for Throwback Thursday. This is the first book in her wildly popular New Species series. If you love smoking hot, paranormal romance with raw emotion and a powerful love story, you have to read this series. And lucky for you, if you've never read this author before, book 12 has already been released.

On a more personal note...while I love all the books in this series, Valiant is my favorite. :)

BLURB:

Book 1 in the New Species series. While each New Species book is a standalone, the greatest enjoyment will come from reading them in series order.

Ellie is horrified to discover the pharmaceutical company she works for is doing illegal experiments. Company scientists have spliced human and animal DNA, creating exotic new species. One such “experiment” captures her heart and she’ll do anything to save him—even if he hates her for it.

Fury has never known compassion or love. He’s spent his life in a cell, chained and abused by humans. The one woman he allowed himself to trust betrayed him. Now he’s free and set on vengeance. He vows to end her life but when she’s finally in his grasp, harming her is the last thing he wants to do to the sexy little human.

Fury can’t resist Ellie—the touch of her hands, her mouth on his skin, her body wrapped around his. He’s obsessed with the scent of his woman. And Ellie wants Fury—always has. She craves his big, powerful body and wants to heal his desolate heart.

But loving Fury is one thing…taming him is another.

Throwback Thursday--Book Edition (Naked in Death by J.D. Robb)

I love J.D. Robb's In Death series, and NAKED IN DEATH is the book that started it all back in 1995. Now there are 40 books in the series, and it just keeps getting better. Eve Dallas is a kickass heroine who is pretty much a loner in this first book. She gets involved with Roarke, who is a suspect in a murder investigation, and neither of their lives will be the same again.

This is a series you read in order, as each one builds on the relationships in the previous books. You could read them out of order, but why would you? They're all amazing and well worth the read.

BLURB:

In a world of danger and deception, she walks the line--between seductive passion and scandalous murder...

Eve Dallas is a New York police lieutenant hunting for a ruthless killer. In over ten years on the force, she's seen it all--and knows her survival depends on her instincts. And she's going against every warning telling her not to get involved with Roarke, an Irish billionaire--and a suspect in Eve's murder investigation. But passion and seduction have rules of their own, and it's up to Eve to take a chance in the arms of a man she knows nothing about--except the addictive hunger of needing his touch.

Tuesday Tunes--Burn by The Cure

This is a live performance of The Cure doing Burn. This song is one of my favorites from The Crow soundtrack.

Pictures from the holiday weekend

Here are a few pictures from my long weekend.
It's hard to see but this is an iceberg just off the east coast of Canada in the Atlantic Ocean.

There was a seal swimming just off the rocks.

Beautiful sunny day. Chilly, but still lovely.

Happy Victoria Day!

It's the Victoria Day weekend here in Canada, more commonly known as the May 24th weekend (or May Two-four) even though it rarely falls on that date. It's the unofficial kickoff to summer here. I'm looking forward to some nice weather and some sunshine.

Enjoy your long weekend.

Happy Victoria Day to all my Canadian friends!

Romancing the Book

ROMANCING THE BOOK has reviewed WOLF IN HER BED and WOLF ON THE RUN.

"Wolf in Her Bed is filled with passion, romance and there is danger at every turn. The story moved quickly and it had me engaged from beginning to end. This story shows how the struggle for power can lead to betrayal."

"...entertaining and I would recommend it to lovers of shifter romance."

Throwback Thursday--Book Edition (A Kiss of Midnight by Lara Adrian)

This week, the Throwback Thursday feature is A KISS OF MIDNIGHT by Lara Adrian. This is the first book in her Midnight Breed series. I was lucky enough to find this series when the first book was released. There are now over a dozen full-length books, several short stories and even a companion guide.

This is vampires with a twist. If you love paranormal romance, you need to check out the Midnight Breed series.

BLURB:

He watches her from across the crowded dance club, a sensual black-haired stranger who stirs Gabrielle Maxwell’s deepest fantasies. But nothing about this night—or this man—is what it seems. For when Gabrielle witnesses a murder outside the club, reality shifts into something dark and deadly. In that shattering instant she is thrust into a realm she never knew existed—a realm where vampires stalk the shadows and a blood war is set to ignite.

Lucan Thorne despises the violence carried out by his lawless brethren. A vampire himself, Lucan is a Breed warrior, sworn to protect his kind—and the unwitting humans existing alongside them—from the mounting threat of the Rogues. Lucan cannot risk binding himself to a mortal woman, but when Gabrielle is targeted by his enemies, he has no choice but to bring her into the dark underworld he commands.

Here, in the arms of the Breed’s formidable leader, Gabrielle will confront an extraordinary destiny of danger, seduction, and the darkest pleasures of all. . . .

Weekend Book Club--Garden of Lies by Amanda Quick

This week I read GARDEN OF LIES by Amanda Quick. As always, there is strong heroine, witty dialogue and a mystery at the heart of the story, which brings the hero and heroine together. Always original and entertaining, I thoroughly enjoyed Amanda Quick's latest book.

BLURB:

The Kern Secretarial Agency provides reliable professional services to its wealthy clientele, and Anne Clifton was one of the finest women in Ursula Kern’s employ. But Miss Clifton has met an untimely end—and Ursula is convinced it was not due to natural causes.

Archaeologist and adventurer Slater Roxton thinks Mrs. Kern is off her head to meddle in such dangerous business. Nevertheless, he seems sensible enough to Ursula, though she does find herself unnerved by his self-possession and unreadable green-gold eyes…

If this mysterious widowed beauty insists on stirring the pot, Slater intends to remain close by as they venture into the dark side of polite society. Together they must reveal the identity of a killer—and to achieve their goal they may need to reveal their deepest secrets to each other as well…
